Kevin Kling, Victor Zupanc & MSO CD cover
We know you’ll enjoy these two great pieces, written by Victor Zupanc and Kevin Kling, and performed by Kevin and the Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Music Director William Schrickel.

We made a record! Our live performances of The Twelve Dancing Princesses and The Burning Wisdom of Finn McCool, by Victor Zupanc and Kevin Kling, featuring narrator Kevin Kling, are available for purchase at https://kevinkling.hearnow.com/

The MSO gave the World Premiere performance of The Twelve Dancing Princesses, which we co-commissioned with the St. Olaf Orchestra, on October 13, 2019, at Roseville Lutheran Church. This hilarious, touching, beautiful piece is paired with our November, 2014 performance of The Burning Wisdom of Finn McCool, featuring Tom Klein on Ulleann Pipes.

Carol Barnett and Clara Osowski – World Premiere Preview

Saturday, November 2, 2019 from 4:00 PM to 5:30 PM
at the home of Associate Concertmaster Kerri Fabyanske
4000 Washburn Avenue S.
Minneapolis, MN 55410

Please join us for our preview of a new work by Minnesota composer Carol Barnett, Will’s Ladies, commissioned by the Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra. Enjoy wine and hors d’oeuvres as MSO Music Director William Schrickel chats with Carol Barnett and mezzo-soprano Clara Osowski, for whom this piece is being written, about the creation of this beautiful new five movement song cycle, which sets soliloquies of five Shakespearean female lead characters: Portia, Juliet, Ophelia, Lady Macbeth, and Cleopatra.

As part of this event, Clara Osowski will sing the Juliet movement from Will’s Ladies with MSO pianist Darin Tysdal – the first time any part of this work will be heard in public. We will give the premiere performances of this wonderful music on May 10 and May 17, 2020, in Roseville and Minneapolis, respectively.

Mark Russell Smith to conduct May 12

Our May 12 concert, 36 Years of Harmony, will be conducted by Mark Russell Smith. MSO Music Director William Schrickel is unable to lead us in this performance due to an unexpected health issue. Fortunately, Mark Russell Smith, who is the Music Director of the Quad City Orchestra in Davenport, Iowa, the Artistic Director of the Greater Twin Cities Youth Symphonies, and the Artistic Director of Orchestral Activities at the University of Minnesota, is available to step in to lead this concert, and Schrickel will return to the MSO podium in June.

Symphonic Spring

Please join the Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra for our Symphonic Spring!

On Saturday, April 27, from 4pm – 7pm, the musicians, audience members, donors, and other friends of the MSO will gather on the spectacular 35th floor roof of Marquette Place overlooking downtown Minneapolis for food, beverages, silent auction items, and, of course, music. With a piano and a bar, we may also have some singing. Your participation and contributions on April 27 will ensure we can do even more to reach communities throughout the metro. Tickets, which include beverages, food, and entertainment, are only $35!

Our special guests will be storyteller Kevin Kling and composer Victor Zupanc. These two Minnesota treasures will talk about their new work that MSO is co-commissioning with the St. Olaf Orchestra, which we will premiere in the fall on October 13, 2019. We are thrilled that they will give us a sneak preview of this exciting piece!
